Blasphemous 2 – developer The Game Kitchen’s acclaimed Souls-like action-platformer sequel – is delving further into the mythology of The Penitent One on 31st October, when its paid Mea Culpa expansion and an accompanying free update arrives for all platforms.

Mea Culpa tells the story of the eponymous lost sword, wielded by The Penitent One in The Game Kitchen’s first Blasphemous game. It promises two new zones featuring “harsh winds”, “towering heights”, and two new bosses. That’s alongside four new quests – in which players piece together their sword – as well as new NPCs, prayers, rosary beads, Argent board figures, and an alternate ending. It also includes a “new (yet familiar) weapon and ability” – no prizes for guessing what’ll be – plus new achievements.

Blasphemous 2’s Mea Culpa expansion launches for PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, and PC (via Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store) on 31st October. It’ll cost £11.99/€11.99/$11.99 USD, but there’s a 20 percent discount if you pick it up in its first two weeks of release.

Today sees God of War Ragnarök release on PC almost two years after its console launch and it brings a much-requested new option.
Yes, finally players will be able to reduce the frequency of puzzle hints from companions, so talking head Mimir will finally shut up. Check the in-game “Gameplay Settings” tab to enable this feature.
You may remember plenty of discourse around the high frequency of puzzle hints in God of War Ragnarök. Essentially, whenever you arrive at a puzzle NPCs will provide hints to its solution before you’ve barely got your bearings.

Poker in New Super Mario Bros. Slots in Pokémon Red and Blue. Roulette in Super Mario 64 DS. The Witcher’s Gwent. Knights of the Old Republic’s Pazaak.

If released this month, all of these could trigger an automatic 18+ age rating under Australia’s tightened rules on “simulated gambling” in video games.

From 22nd September 2024, any video game with “gambling-like content” will come under strict new guidelines – even if such content is only a minor part of a broader video game, such as a casino mini-game tucked away within a sprawling RPG (thanks, Vooks).

The rules will apply, naturally, to video games that “solely consist of simulated gambling activities”, but also to “video games that have interactive activities such as slot machine simulators, roulette wheels or other age-restricted gambling or betting services as part of a broader game”.

Unlike lower age ratings such as Australia’s “M” classification (not recommended for children under 15 years), the country’s “R” 18+ category comes with a legal restriction on the sale or distribution of such games to minors.

Existing video games won’t need to be reclassified, though this will change…

Hoyoverse has confirmed Xbox players will not need to purchase a Game Pass subscription in order to access Genshin Impact’s online multiplayer mode.
The confusion began soon after Hoyoverse announced Genshin Impact would be making its way to Xbox Series X/S and Game Pass. Initially, the game’s Xbox store page listing stated: “Online multiplayer on console requires Xbox Game Pass Ultimate or Xbox Game Pass Core (sold separately).”
Those on ResetEra pointed out this is a different approach to other free-to-play games on the platform, such as Fortnite.

Battletech, Shadowrun, and The Lamplighters League developer Harebrained Schemes has announced its first project since parting ways with Paradox Interactive last year. It’s a “post-cyberpunk survival horror RPG” called Graft and it’s heading to PC.

Graft’s story unfolds in the depths of a decaying continent-sized space station known as the Arc, home to forgotten technologies and unsettling wonders. Players must brave its horrors as they traverse “massive chasms, labyrinthine techno-catacombs, and self-replicating corridors”, facing enemies in combat – including “ancient experiments, monstrous abominations, and relentless agents of a mad AI” – and Grafting as they go.

This is pretty much exactly what it sounds like, requiring players to scavenge body parts from fallen opponents and graft them onto themselves in order to alter their physical form, gaining new abilities and powers as they do. But Grafting a part also infuses players with its previous owner’s memories, creating what Harebrained calls a “haunting interplay of survival, transformation, and self-discovery”.

Rumours of a PlayStation exclusivity deal for Black Myth: Wukong have arisen, causing confusion around its forthcoming Xbox release.
Black Myth: Wukong released earlier this month across PC and PlayStation 5, with an Xbox version still awaiting a launch date. Back in June, developer Game Science stated it was “optimising” the Xbox Series X/S version of the game “to meet our quality standards”.
As such, Black Myth: Wukong was not released on Xbox simultaneously with PC and PlayStation. “We apologise for the delay and aim to minimise the wait for Xbox users. We will announce the release date as soon as it meets our quality standards,” Game Science said at that time.
