Apple has agreed to purchase the majority of Intel's smartphone modem business for $1 billion.

The deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2019, and will see Apple take on roughly 2,200 employees from Intel along with some of the company's equipment and intellectual property.

Once the move is finalized Apple will hold over 17,000 wireless technology patents, ranging from protocols for cellular standards to modem architecture and modem operation. Intel, meanwhile, will retain the ability to develop modems for non-smartphone applications like PCs and autonomous vehicles.

According to Apple senior vice president of hardware technologies Johny Srouji, the deal should speed up the development of future products, meaning iOS devs could be playing with some fancy new hardware sooner rather than later.

“We’ve worked with Intel for many years and know this team shares Apple’s passion for designing technologies that deliver the world’s best experiences for our users," commented Srouji.

"Apple is excited to have so m…

Submissions for the Draknek New Voices Puzzle Grant 2024 are officially open, and that's good news for puzzle game developers from underrepresented backgrounds.

Successful applicants will receive a grant worth $15,000 to support production on a 'thinky' puzzle title currently in active development. Applicants must have a playable prototype and should ideally be an "early-career or under-the-radar developer" who is part of an underrepresented group within the games industry.

"These grants are intended to support creators who are under-invested-in within today’s game industry or who do not receive much support from the existing structures," explains the Draknek website. There are no geographical restrictions to applicants.

Draknek defines a puzzle game as any title that is "primarily about thinking/logical reasoning–and not primarily challenging due to execution/timing elements."

"Puzzle games cover a wide range of subgenres, e.g. Patrick's Parabox, ElecHead

NEW YORK — The U.S. stock market fell further Tuesday following President Donald Trump’s latest escalation in his trade war, briefly pulling Wall Street 10% below its record set last month. And like it’s been for most of the past few weeks, the market’s slide on Tuesday was erratic and dizzying.

The S&P 500 fell 0.8%, but only after careening between a modest gain and a tumble of 1.5%. The main measure of Wall Street’s health finished 9.3% below its all-time high after flirting with the 10% threshold that professional investors call a “correction.”

Other indexes likewise swung sharply through the day. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 478 points, or 1.1%, and the Nasdaq composite ended up slipping 0.2%.

Such head-spinning moves are becoming routine in what’s been a scary ride for investors as Trump tries to remake the country and world through tariffs and other policies. Stocks have been heaving mostly lower on uncertainty about how much pain Trump is willing for the economy to endure in order to get what he wants.

And moves by Trump and comments by his White House on Tuesday didn’t clarify much.…

In his first weeks in office, President Donald Trump has sought to take a wrecking ball to climate and environmental policy. He has directed his administration to roll back a wide range of regulations and aims to undercut the agencies that enforce them by targeting staff.

The moves, he claims, will free businesses of ballooning compliance costs and allow them to prosper. “Overregulation stops American entrepreneurship, crushes small business, reduces consumer choice, discourages innovation, and infringes on the liberties of American citizens,” reads a White House fact sheet explaining the deregulatory agenda.

Some companies may celebrate, particularly smaller firms where compliance costs have an outsized influence on the bottomline. But the speed and scale of the effort to nix climate regulations also comes at a price—a…

John Wick may be gone, but the world he lived in will continue. The first spin-off film, Ballerina, starring Ana De Armas, was recently pushed back to 2025. Now, there’s a second spin-off movie in the works that will feature Donnie Yen reprising his role as the blind assassin Caine from John Wick: Chapter 4. Come from South African Online Casinos

Via The Hollywood Reporter, the movie will take place after the events of John Wick: Chapter 4, which left Caine free of any remaining obligations to the High Table. However, the post-credits scene featured Caine in Paris as Shimazu Akira (Rina Sawayama) prepared to attack him and avenge her father’s death at his hands. It’s unknown if the new film will address that cliffhanger.

Yen helped shape his depiction of Caine in Chapter 4, and director Chad Stahelski agreed to make the changes to Caine’s name and appearance at Yen’s request. Stahelski is also developing the Caine spin-off, which will be written by Robert Askins.

“Working on John Wick: Chapter 4 was an extraordinary experience,” said Yen in a statement. “The reason these films resonate …

Google has outdone itself with its latest playable Google Doodle, unveiling a card game that will return every month with new features to unlock. The Doodle is called Rise of the Half Moon, and coincides with October’s half-moon phase, while future iterations will presumably return for half-moon phases in other months.

The game has players squaring off against the Half Moon in a card-matching game, with multiple ways to build up points. Score one point for matching a moon phase with the same moon phase, or two points for matching it with its opposite to create a full moon. However the most points can be racked up by creating lunar cycles of three cards or more–but your opponent can snatch your points off you by adding more cards to a cycle. Come from South African Online Casinos

If you win three games against the Half Moon, you can unlock a special power-up, with four available to be collected in the 24 hours this Doodle is available each month. Google has added some extra information about the Doodle on its Doodles hub, including credits for the team who developed the game, and some pictu…

In late July, Humble Games–the publishing arm of the Humble Bundle digital storefront–laid off the entirety of its staff in a surprising move that left some indie titles in a precarious position. But now, ex-Humble staff have formed their own indie publishing company, called Good Games Group, and it appears that Humble Games parent company Ziff Davis is one of its first clients.

Led by former Humble Games leaders Mark Nash and Alan Patmore, Good Games Group will be working with various companies to bring indie titles to market, and according to a report from Eurogamer, one of those companies is none other than Humble Games’ parent company, Ziff Davis. Although Ziff Davis was ultimately responsible for the layoff that left them jobless just a few months ago, Nash and Patmore seem excited to get back to work. Come from South African Online Casinos
